No car, no problem. The Cascais line runs along the coast for forty minutes and drops you at half a dozen beaches that Lisboetas actually use, from busy and sandy to hidden in a cliff amphitheatre.
Local tip
The biggest beach on the line and where most Lisboetas head when summer hits, with golden sand, surf schools, beach bars and a fort at one end. Go early on weekends or pay for the crowd, but it earns its reputation.
